Set in the heart of the historic town of Bridgwater in Somerset, and within walking distance of both the local public transport links and amenities, our client is a modern, yet well-established, business-led 4-star hotel with a popular on-site restaurant.

The hotel restaurant is catered for by an experienced kitchen team of 10, serving an average of 60-80 covers per evening, with varying numbers at weekends. The hotel is also able to cater for buffet lunches of up to 40 covers.

Please note that accommodation is not available with this role, so candidates should only apply if they can commute to the Bridgwater area of Somerset daily.

What’s involved?

Working closely with the Head Chef, the successful Sous Chef will support the day-to-day management of the kitchen operation, ensuring consistently high standards of food quality, presentation, and service as well as leading the team in the Head Chef’s absence. You will lead by example, inspire the team, and help drive operational excellence across all areas of the kitchen.

You will assist with menu implementation, ensuring all dishes are delivered to specification. You will monitor kitchen performance, supporting staff training and development, as well as coaching and mentoring junior chefs and kitchen team members. The Sous Chef will also be responsible for managing stock control, ordering, storage, and stock rotation processes, whilst maintaining a clean, organised, and efficient working environment for all and ensuring all food safety, hygiene, and health & safety procedures are adhered to.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Sous Chef or a Junior Sous Chef who’s looking to step into their first Sous Chef role and can remain calm under pressure. The ideal candidate will be someone who thrives in a fast-paced, fresh-food environment and is passionate about food and committed to maintaining high standards.
